چکیده
Local composting (household, community and small scale applications) is considered a sustainable option for bio-waste recovery receiving increasing demand from society. Higher education institutions are no exception, but detailed comprehensive long-term studies on programs university campuses lacking. The local program of the University A Coruña (UDC) offers decentralized service treatment food waste 11 canteens using static dynamic composters located in 9 different areas. Considering three pillars sustainability, this work describes characteristics technologies used their investment operational costs, routine monitoring process product quality, integration systems as living labs biotechnology environmental engineering courses, use compost vegetable gardens. agents involved project canteen staff, gardening company, external operators, researchers teachers, sustainability scholarship students volunteer people. Organic usually delivered directly by staff to composters. provides green UDC campus (crushed pruning) that bulking material. maintenance areas currently charge provided NGO dedicated cooperation job reintegration unemployed. also allows incorporation volunteers operators supervisors. main result was prevention large amount did not require collection transportation, or disposal incineration. This being done an economically way, costs have been lower than average municipal solid region. largely offset higher labour overall those composter. dissemination practice society another important outcome project.

A Cost Analysis of Food Waste Composting in Taiwan
Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) has enacted a food waste recycling policy since 2003 as an alternative of landfill and incineration for the final disposal of municipal solid waste. Recycled food waste is currently seen as a valuable material, especially when appropriate technology is developed. This paper conducts a cost/benefit analysis based on six cases of food waste c...

Composting of food waste generated from the University of Georgia’s cafeterias was evaluated using an agitated aerated composting system. The goal of the project was to determine if all of the University’s food waste could be recycled using six Earth Tubs. Secondary evaluations investigated the amount of leachate produced, odor generated, speed of composting, quality of compost, cost savings to...

In 1993, the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (located near Jackson, GA) initiated an on-site composting operation to convert food waste into a useable by-product. Each week, inmates compost about 20 tons of food waste, which are mixed with ground cardboard, hay, yard leaves, or wood products. The operation takes place on a 1.2-ha site (3 acres) that drains towards a small, paermial...
